The Rocky Mountains are one of the most beautiful places in the world to visit. The mountain peaks and so majestic and awe inspiring that you can not help but be astonished by the view. The beautiful pine forest and Aspen groves blanket everything except the most sheer cliff faces. The forest is home to countless creatures that make up the vast eco-systems in the west.
Those of us who live in in west know that the pine forests of the Rocky Mountains are under attack from Pine Beetles. This beetles burrow into the trunks of the pine tree and slow kill them. The once lush green mountain sides are now littered with dead brown pine trees and there is no end in sight.
The once beautiful pine forests are changing. Some are slowly being replaced by Aspens and other trees. Other areas just die and stick out like rotten teeth. The one thing that we can be sure of is that the pine forests of the west will not be the same during out life times. This is the ebb and flow of nature.
The alleged culprit of the increase in severity of the pine beetle devastation is climate change. Whether you believe climate change is man made or a natural climate cycle, its effects cannot be ignored. The world will continue to change whether we like it or not. My advice to those who love the pine covered mountain ranges is to enjoy them as much as you can while they still exist.
